This v/blog is about sharing stories, listening to people tell their journey whether it be about their careers or hobbies. Inspiring others to follow their dreams and strive to do something that makes them happy, speaks to their soul or lights a fire in their belly. My guests share advice from their own perspectives over various topics, they share their hopes and dreams and what they want out of life and out of their endeavors. The great thing about being human is that everyone has their own experiences that form their own opinions, and sometimes we need to hear an opinion that differs from our own. This is not a place to condemn someone for how they do or think about things if it’s different from how you’d do it, but to just listen and take it for what it is – a sharing of their experience.

Treating your creative business like a hobby? Let’s change that – meet Josh Alexander!

Josh is a wonderful person and voice talent, who also helps other voice talent build their business and learn to think like an entrepreneur. If you’re not a voice talent, no worries. A lot of the tips and advice given in this episode is transferrable to other creative careers. The foundation and mindset it takes to be a successful voice actor is quite similar to what it takes to be successful in any career, creative or otherwise. Be sure to take some notes. ;]

As a business coach, Josh helps voice actors find their way when building their career. A lot of creatives are not very business minded and kinda stumble around when it comes to running their career like an enterprise. Should I get a business license? What all do I need to do for taxes? How do I budget for my investments? How do I market myself? The list of questions goes on. If these are some of your questions, Josh is your guy.

I’ve had the pleasure of spending some time with him in a couple of business coaching sessions myself and I found it to absolutely be worth my time. He answered my questions and helped clear up some confusion about how to go about doing some things – like marketing. I’m so grateful to be able to move past my doubts and reservations about direct marketing and do it in a way that’s comfortable for me but also time efficient. There are many ways to run your business, the main thing is just figuring out how you want to do it. Personally, I don’t do cold calling, but I know a few people who do. Does that give them an advantage? Maybe. Maybe not. Does cold calling want to make me crawl into a hole and hold myself in the fetal position? Yes. Do I want to make myself miserable when it’s unnecessary? Heeeellll no. But you do you, boo.

As a voice talent, Josh is killing it. He does commercials, elearnings, corporate narrations, real estate, characters, etc. His brand is “Super” for a reason. Dude works his butt off and it has paid off for him in so many ways. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have more goals to reach or even a dream role that he strives for. He’s hoping that this year, 2023, he will sign with an agency (name unknown) that he’s been doing a trial with. His dream role is to be the brand voice for a big fortune 500 company. Then you could never escape his voice, it would be everywhere and his devious agenda will be complete! MUAHAHAHA!

Not gonna lie, that would be cool. Could you imagine hearing me be the voice of Arby’s?

…Probably not. Josh would sound better, and I’d rather be the voice of a princess. But hey, it’s a cool thought.
